On a sunny and cool morning friends of India Home gathered at Gujarati Samaj building in Flushing, New York on June 1, 2008 at 10-00 AM. After a sumptuous and delicious Gujarati brunch guests attended a presentation on India Home by Dr. Vasundhara Kalasapudi. All the board members of India Home are on hand to welcome the distinguished guests under the direction of Mr. Gyanendra Sinha, Secretary of India Home.
Dr. Vasundhara Kalasapudi, President of the India Home explained the idea and working of the organisation. She said the India Home will make a difference in the lives of the seniors hailing from the India. Some seniors lack language skills and some are living below the poverty line but all these seniors need assistance and India Home is there to help these seniors. She outlined the plans for various services, like Day Adult Care, affordable housing for seniors, medical and psychiatric services. These services will come in due course, not necessarily in a short span of one or two years. She appealed for support of the organisation and participation from the seniors.
Doshi Family Foundation is represented by Dr. Nitin Doshi and Dr. Leena Doshi accompanied by their children - Neely Doshi-Cather and Nishat Doshi and Nori Foundation is represented by Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori and Dr. (Mrs.) Subhadra Nori and his son Satish and daughter. Dr. Satyanarayana Gavarasana introduced these two philanthropic families and thanked them for their generosity.
Leena Doshi explained why she was impressed with the idea of India Home explained by Dr. Vasundhara Kalasapudi and immediately understood the need for a vehicle for transport and promised one immediately.
Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori explained that a center that serves seniors need a geriatrics specialist and a psychiatrist and here we have these specialists in the person of Dr. Vasundhara Kalasapudi. He opined that the India Home will move ahead with the stated goals. He explained how the Nori family has established two Sai Mandirs, one in Baldwin, NY and the other in Iselin, NJ.
Mr. James F. Gennaro, Council Member, District 24, congratulated the team of India Home and promised all the help from the government.
Ms. Meera Gandhi, Former U.N. Goodwill Ambassador, spoke briefly and congratulated Dr. Vasundhara Kalasapudi for coming up with such a brilliant idea and she promised all the help.
Dr. Francesca Gany, Director of CIH, NYU School of Medicine and her colleague Dr. Sapna Pandya, explained how the Center for Immigrant Health at New York University School of Medicine has studied the problems of the immigrants in the past. The Center is ready to assist in various health campaigns, Dr. Gay said.
Dr. Amit Sood, Vice President of India Home proposed a vote of thanks. The program was emceed by MR. Gyanendra Sinha, Secretary of India Home.
