  1. 1.Computer Class Instructor (Volunteer)

We are looking for a volunteer instructor to teach computer classes for elderly South Asian participants.

RESPONSIBILITIES include teaching:

  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Basic Word processing skills and typing
  • Letter writing
  •  Internet research skills
    • How to perform a Google search
    • Email set up
    • Introduction to social media
      • Facebook
    • Using Amazon/ Ebay to make purchases
    • How to track packages

    Ability to speak Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati, Bengali a plus.

    Members volunteer to serve meals

    2. Meal Site Volunteer 

    We are looking for volunteers to assist during our lunchtime hours at Sunnyside Community Services. The individual will be helping in dispensing food and some light cleanup following for our elderly south Asian program. We need help on Mondays, from 12-2pm

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    –  Direct and assist in dining room and serving station set up as needed for meal service
    –  Assist with setup of announcements and food stations.
    –  Sanitize tables, preset condiments, centerpieces, table coverings as assigned.
    –  Responsible for completing and verifying attendance roster
    –  Greet newcomers as well as regulars (host/ hostess)
    –  Help serve meals at congregate site
    –  Clean dining room carts, chairs, tables, and heating unit
    –  Work with volunteers in a cooperative manner to complete tasks on time

      • RESOURCES
        Assistant will be trained and receive on- going supervision.TIME COMMITMENT
        2 hours per assigned day; schedule to change for special events or holiday meals.
        Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati, Bengali speakers a plus

    3. Smartphone Instructor

    We are looking for a volunteer smartphone instructor to provide classes for elderly south Asian participants. The instructor is responsible for providing the following:

    Basic use

    • How to charge/how often to charge phone
    • How to sign into the app store
      • Download and Update apps
      • Using apps such as Whats App
    • Linking email accounts to smartphones
    • Taking photos
    • Sending text messages and pictures

    Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati, Bengali speakers a plus

      ● Seniors (Persons 60 years old or older)

      Purpose

      ● Provide South Asian Seniors with Visitation in their Homes or in Nursing Homes

      ● Engage in mutually enjoyable and agreeable activities ● May provide socialization outside of client home

      Outcomes

      ● Reduced feelings of loneliness or isolation
      ● Increased feelings of social connectedness
      ● Increased participation in the wider community ● Respite for family or caregiver

      Activities & Tasks

      ● Visiting with persons served in home or in the community
      ● Social activities, talking, watching movies or having a snack,

      etc.

      Outline of Responsibilities

      ● Follow policies and procedures
      ● Report issues, concerns or incidents to Volunteer Services

      Program Leader

      Schedule & Commitment

      ● One visit per week
      ● Available to commit for a minimum of 6 months

      Boundaries & Limitations

      ● No administering of medications
      ● No accepting or giving of gifts, money, alcohol or keys
      ● No mediation or advocacy for personal or family problems

      Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required

      ● True comfort with and sincere desire to assist seniors ● Non-judgmental attitude
      ● Ability to make others feel at ease
      ● Good communication and interpersonal skills

      ● Must be at least 18 years old
